Team Gizmos and Gadgets and Guinness, Heineken sweep classes
IT was a night of beverage giants reigning supreme in the Secure Innovations and Concepts-sponsored Endurance Rental Car Cup championship on Wednesday evening at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) headquarters, Thomas Lands. Team Heineken ‘karted’ off the 600lb class while earlier in the evening, the Gizmos and Gadgets and Guinness-sponsored unit ran untouched in the 500lb division.
The Heineken team through the ‘hand in bag’ method drew Kart 7 and later drew the grid position 3 through their opening driver Vishaul Sawh.
However, after a sketchy start which saw them fall to fifth, the team clawed their way back into the contest, managing to get back up to third before the first mandatory driver change 20 minutes into the hour drive.

This brought John Maikoo into the battle as he maintained the pace and moved the side up to second with the-then race leaders Team Top Power (Brian Ten Pow, Kevin Jeffrey and Shan Seejattan) and third place E-Racing (Jason Gonzalves, Marcel Profitt and Denzil Hopkinson).
On the final leg was when ‘the beer team’ really began to show their strength with Raymond Seebarran closing the gap on team top power with just over five minutes remaining.
They pushed into the lead with two minutes left on the clock, with E- Racing further demoting top power to third in the final minute.
Nonetheless, Team Top Power, who led for most of that race, still had a silver lining on an otherwise stormy cloud, with Brian Ten Pow producing the fastest time of the class, a blistering 40.168.
In the earlier 500lb class, the team of Matthew Phang, John Phang and Steven Nobrega raced from flag to flag untouched, Matthew picking up the fastest time of that class which was a 40.142.
They held off the earlier challenges of Team Nexus (Matthew Vieira, Elliot Vieira and Nikhil Seereeram) who eventually finished second with Team Adrenaline Junkies (Nyron Maraj, Ken Sue and Shayne Seebarran) finishing third.
The championship, organised by GT Motorsports will be run once monthly, under the title sponsorship of Secure Innovations and Concepts as the company’s CEO Harold Hopkinson confirmed during the presentation.
GT Motorsports owner Vishok Persaud confirmed that the novel event will take the form of a championship, running once a month for the remaining eleven months and that space is being made to include more teams.
Other sponsors on the night, Auto Fashions, presented Ten Pow a set of Weathertech all weather mats for the fastest lap time in the 600lb class and Farfan and Mendes donated the fastest lap time award of a Kercher sweeper to the 500lb winner, Matthew Phang.
Monster Energy was the official energy drink sponsor.
