WEST Indies star batman Chris Gayle has lashed out at former Australia Big Bash League (BBL) employers, Melbourne Renegades, claiming he is yet to be paid for his time with the franchise last year.Gayle scored 250 runs in eight matches for the BBL team last season, which included equalling the-then world record for fastest T20 50, after reaching the mark off just 12 balls.
The West Indian’s season was, however, perhaps more noted for controversy off the pitch following a post-innings interview where he invited a female reporter out for a drink on live TV.
Gayle was fined US$10 000 for the incident by the club. Yesterday, however, the player revealed that he had yet to be paid a salary and took to social media platform Twitter to air his grouses.
“So why is it I can’t get paid like all the others? It’s been 1 year now and I need my money asap! Not because I’m from the Caribbean #Ten,” read Gayle’s first tweet.
“So make sure when I check my account next week it’s there! I done talk! Slavery Days done with! Pay Me! #Ten.”
“I’m sure players who used the Cam/Helmet while batting and commentators who did commentary last year BBL have been paid.”
Gayle did not take part in the competition this year, but has claimed it was in fact by choice, refuting suggestions he had been blacklisted from the competition. (Sportsmax.com)
