TRINIDAD and Tobago national coach Tom Saintfiet hopes to make full use of the experience of former national player Russell Latapy who joined the unit as assistant coach this week.
A former national coach, Latapy, officially joined the coaching staff this weekend, following last month’s announcement from the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA).
“Russell is a football man, he knows the country and he has achieved a lot as a player on top level in Europe and on the national team. He has experience also as a coach so I am very happy to add him to the technical team just like everybody else who is there and together we will form a stronger squad,” Saintfiet said.
Saintfiet, who took over from longtime coach Stephen Hart last month, has made several chances to the national squad as he attempts to right a World Cup qualification final round campaign that got off to a rocky start. The coach claims he is looking forward to an exchange of ideas.
“The last two or three weeks I have already had a lot of contact with Russell. Today, when he came to the hotel we took some time, we came together … and we spoke a little bit about my philosophy, about his ideas and about our way to work together. I am very happy that Russell is here,” he said. (Sportsmax.com)
