A STABBING incident at a football event on Boxing Day has left a Moruca, North West District man in a traumatised state.
Remmington Dindyal, 23, was at a social event at the Kumaka Recreational Ground in Santa Rosa during the wee hours of Boxing Day when he was attacked by two men.
Reports are that the man was in the crowd of spectators who had gathered at an event which was being played under floodlights. During the event, someone pushed him aside and according to a relative, an argument ensued between Dindyal and another man, while an accomplice of the latter stood by. Dindyal’s assailant then grabbed an empty beer bottle, broke off the bottom and proceeded to attack him.
Dindyal sustained a stab wound in his back, along with lacerations about his body. The attacker and his accomplice disappeared from the scene, while the wounded man was left lying on the ground.
Relatives of the injured man expressed disgust that even as he was bleeding profusely on the ground motorists were hesitant to take him to the hospital, located less than 10 minutes away.
He was forced to walk to the hospital while being propped –up by his friends after which medical personnel attended to his injuries. His condition was listed as stable and he was later discharged from the hospital. Residents noted that the man was lucky to be alive as persons expressed dissatisfaction at the actions of the motorists in the closely-knit Hinterland community.
