…involved in robbery of Plaisance businessman
POLICE are on the hunt for two suspects, who are part of a gang operating on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) and which is responsible for a spate of robberies.
Businessman Kenneth Earle of Prince William Street, Plaisance, ECD, who was a victim of one such robbery Friday afternoon, was shot by bandits, who escaped with more than $4M in cash.
Reports revealed that the father of four is contracted by Qualfon to provide transportation services to the company’s employees. At the time of the robbery, he had withdrawn money to pay the other drivers who work with him. According to police the businessman, accompanied by a friend, went to a city bank on Friday afternoon and withdrew a large sum of cash to pay his workers.
Having withdrawn the money, the two then travelled to Plaisance via Earle’s motor car. Upon arrival, they exited the vehicle and were immediately confronted by two armed bandits, who discharged their firearms, hitting Earle in both legs.
The bandits them relieved the two men of the cash, and escaped in a tinted vehicle. The incident reportedly occurred about 15:30hrs. Police in a statement said that Earle was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where he was treated and admitted. He is said to be in a stable condition.
Investigators have retrieved several spent shells from the scene, as investigations continue in an effort to apprehend the two suspects.
