COMING off the high of just having won the Caribbean Development tournament, president of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) Steve Ninvalle will travel to Montreux, Switzerland on Friday to participate in an Extraordinary Congress organised by AIBA.

The December 19-21 Congress will be held at the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace Hotel in Montreux, a 90-minute drive from Geneva. The GBA president declared that he would use the opportunity to solicit support for two International tournaments that his association will host next year.

The Caribbean Schoolboys and Juniors tournament and the Inter Guianas competition to be held in April and October respectively are in need of funding. AIBA president Dr Ching Kuo Wu was recently in Barbados where he pledged assistance to St Lucia in order for that country to stage the third edition of the Caribbean Development Tournament in December 2017.

Part of the upcoming Congress agenda is a vote to fully accept India back into the AIBA fold. India was sanctioned by the world governing body and only recently was granted provisional approval.
