Guyanese boxers continue winning ways in Barbados

… Moore captures gold, Amsterdam and Allicock march into semis
LOCAL boxers continued their winning ways when the Caribbean Development Boxing Tournament (CDBT) continued in Bridgetown, Barbados on Thursday evening.
According to reports emanating from the Island of the `Flying Fish’, the pugilists from the `Land of Many Waters’ (Guyana) `drowned’ their opponents from Barbados in all three bouts that the fighters contested.

The end result was that Guyana secured their first gold medal through Isaiah Moore who was the lone junior boxer on tour and who competed in the flyweight division.
Moore forced the referee to stop his flyweight contest against Barbados’ Roshawn Holder in the first round of their final.
Kevin Allicock got into the medal round in the Youth category by causing the referee to stop his flyweight contest against Barbados’ Stephan Harding in the very first round, securing his semi-final place.

In the final bout on Thursday night’s card, Guyana’s Desmond Amsterdam, competing in the Elite category, secured a 3-0 points-decision win over Barbados’ Ision Fraser in their middleweight contest.
The victories for the trio follow on the heels of wins by other Guyanese boxers, Joel Williamson, Christopher Moore and Colin Lewis during the first two days of the tournament.
On Tuesday evening, Moore, fighting in the Youth category, secured a round three technical knockout (TKO) win against his Cayman Islands’ opponent Alex Smith in their lightweight contest, while Williamson, fighting in the lightweight division of the Elite category pounded out a points-decision win against Guadeloupe’s Ronald Bicep.

Some hours later (Wednesday), Moore returned to the ring and faced Miguel Diaz of Anguilla and once again, the referee had to stop the fight in the third round in favour of Moore.
On Wednesday too, Guyana’s Colin Lewis registered a points-decision win against Fredric Pierre of Guadeloupe in the light welterweight division of the Elite category.
After arriving in Barbados at 17:00hrshrs on Tuesday afternoon and booking into their hotel, the Guyanese management team was informed that Moore and Joel Williamson were down to contest the fourth and fifth bouts respectively on that night’s card, just two hours after their arrival.

Despite the late notice, the two Guyanese adjusted themselves psychologically and went down to the venue.
The other boxers that make up the Guyanese contingent are: Akeem Mounter who will compete in the welterweight division of the Youth category, Keevin Allicock (Youth) flyweight division and Elite boxers Jason Barker (super heavyweight), Markember Pierre ( light heavyweight) and Clairmont Gibson (bantamweight).
The boxers are being guided by coaches Sebert Blake (head coach) and assistant coaches Adrian Thompson and Clifton Moore.
The team manager is Guyana Boxing Association vice-president Maurice Rajkumar.
