RORAIMA Airways has responded to a public plea from Casandra Persaud for assistance for her son Omkar Persaud to receive medical treatment for eye cancer in Cuba.
According to a release from Roraima, the cost of facilitating the necessary surgery inclusive of air transport to and from Cuba is estimated at US$20,000.
Roraima’s CEO, Capt. Gerry Gouveia met with Ms. Persaud and her son at his office, December 2, 2016 and offered return flights to Cuba on behalf of the company.
Omkar Persaud, now two years old, was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma, an eye cancer which commonly affects children. The toddler’s left eye was removed as a result of the infection and the right eye was diagnosed with the rare cancer thereby necessitating urgent treatment.
On making the announcement to the mother and son, Capt. Gouveia said, “I was made aware of the situation only recently and am pleased to contribute to the recovery and improvement of the child’s eyesight and overall good health.
“It is amazing to know how many Guyanese reached out to help in whatever way they could.” He added that the offer to Ms. Persaud and her son was an extension of Roraima’s continued commitment to the Medical Evacuation Service operated by Roraima.
Further, Capt. Gouveia expressed best wishes for successful treatment and recovery of the child on behalf of his family and company.
Ms. Persaud accepted the offer and expressed her appreciation to Roraima Airways and said she was pleased with the public’s response and generous assistance for her son.
Roraima Airways since its establishment in 1992 has led the way in its Medical Evacuation Service, operating a 24-hour Air Ambulance Evacuation Service in Guyana, providing a domestic and regional reliable response evacuation service.
