EDUCATION Minister Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine experienced a brief episode of syncope, or fainting spell, on Friday night while attending a reception in honour of Prince Henry of Wales, KCVO, familiarly known as Prince Harry, who is on his first visit to Guyana.

The incident occurred at the residence of British High Commissioner Gregg Quinn, and Dr. Roopnaraine was one of a number of government ministers and invitees at the function.

A statement from the Department of Public Information detailed that “the conditions were hot, and Dr. Roopnaraine was at the time also dehydrated.”

Dr. Roopnaraine was immediately rendered medical attention, and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC), where he remains warded in stable, conscious and alert condition, and is receiving treatment for dehydration.
He is expected to be discharged soon.
