Marijuana fields destroyed at Gateroy

RANKS of the Guyana Police Force on Friday torched four fields of marijuana cultivation, measuring about eight acres, in the Upper Berbice River community of Gateroy.

Police, in a release, said an estimated 10,000 plants, measuring between two feet and six feet in height, and with a weight of approximately 21,000 kilograms, were destroyed when the ranks conducted a 12-hour Drug Eradication exercise at Gateroy, Upper Berbice River.

No arrest has thus far been made, but efforts are being made to trace and apprehend the owner/owners of the land, with a view to instituting charges, police say.
