Zimbabwe game is like a final – Roddy Estwick

WEST Indies coach Roddy Estwick believes the team has to approach tomorrow’s match against Zimbabwe like a final if they want to get to Sunday’s final against Sri Lanka in the tri-nation series currently under way in Zimbabwe.
After opening with a win against Sri Lanka the West Indies have gone winless in their last two games, tying with Zimbabwe before losing to Sri Lanka by one run on Wednesday. The result means the West Indies find themselves in a must-win situation as they have seven points, three more than the home team.
Sri Lanka have 11 points from their three matches.

Estwick said the West Indies have to remain focused on getting an important victory on Friday. “It’s like two finals. It is very important that we win this first final and get ready for the second final on Sunday,” he said.
The weather forecast for Bulawayo is for cool conditions with the possibility of rain but Estwick said the West Indies needs to ignore that and focus on getting the job done. “We can’t worry about the weather too much. All we can do is worry about the things we can control and we can control having a good solid performance tomorrow,” he said.
The coach is buoyed by the fact that despite the two most recent results, the team has been playing well. In their last match the West Indies chasing 331 for victory came within one run of their target while in the previous match they tied Zimbabwe’s 258 to get a share of the points.

Evin Lewis, he said, has found good form and is one prospect for the future.
“It was a top innings,” he said of Lewis 148 off 122 balls with 15 fours and four sixes that brought the West Indies to within a run of their highest ever ODI run chase.
“He didn’t get many in the first two games but against Sri Lanka I thought he played well. He hit the ball down the ground nicely and once he got 50 he wanted to go on so that’s a good sign. When you see that in players who want to make big scores all bodes well for the future.”
He also praised team captain Roland Holder whom he said has held the middle and lower order together with his batting and has carried over his bowling form from Sharjah to this competition. where he is the leading wickettaker.
