SEVEN persons were on Tuesday detained in connection with the death of Faiyaz Narinedatt, a young father of two whose lifeless body was, on November 1, found on the Number 70 Public Road in Upper Corentyne, Berbice.
These persons are being questioned by ranks of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from Georgetown.
Police had initially labelled the case a ‘hit and run’ accident, but Narinedatt’s relatives have always been adamant that his death was staged by persons known to them. After numerous appeals for justice and calls for an independent investigation to be mounted with ranks from outside of Berbice, the police have decided to take a second look into the case, and the family has expressed relief in this regard.
Police divisional commander Kevin Adonis has confirmed that, based on investigations, several persons have been detained for questioning and are being grilled by CID ranks from Georgetown, who have now taken over the investigation.
Commander Adonis also met on Friday with Narinedatt’s family members, and a source has confirmed that the police have managed to get from an eyewitness a statement giving details of the matter. This statement has reportedly corroborated the family’s account of events that led to the alleged murder of Narinedatt.
