WEST Indies Cricket Board CEO Michael Muirhead is to manage the Stanford Cricket Ground and Sticky Wicket Restaurant once he demits office.
The facility is to be expanded to house the new headquarters of the West Indies Cricket Board as well as the players’ academy.
Muirhead will be in charge of identifying funding as well as the overall expansion programme.
Already, 12 pitches have been added to the six already in the middle of the Stanford Cricket Ground.
The outgoing WICB executive, speaking on the Good Morning Jojo Sports Show this week, said the deal for him to take over is all but done.
“I have not signed a contract yet, but I am moving towards that,” Muirhead said of the project.
“The initiative was totally mine to try and acquire it, and I started this over two years ago. I brought it to the board for the first time in September of 2014 and that was after going independently to the liquidators. I saw the opportunity and what could be derived from it.”
Work on the ground is expected to be completed by December. Muirhead will relinquish his position as CEO as soon as the WICB finds a replacement.
