DELON Small, who is accused of killing Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Coast Guard officer, Kevon Payne, has been committed to stand trial in the High Court for the capital offence of murder.Small called “Sound”, 23, of Charlestown, Georgetown, is charged with the murder of Payne, which occurred on March 29 at Russell and Sussex Streets, Georgetown.

He appeared before City Magistrate Leron Daly and was committed to face a judge and jury, following the conclusion of the Preliminary Inquiry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
Small was informed that a prima facie case had been made out against him for the indictable offence.
The case was prosecuted by Corporal Bharat Mangru while Small was represented by Attorney Glen Hanoman.
According to reports, about 22:20 hrs on March 29, Payne and another man Shakel Williams, 22, of James Street, Albouystown, Georgetown were among a group of men standing on the roadway at Sussex Street, Charlestown, when two men armed with firearms rode up on a motorcycle and discharged rounds in their direction.
Payne was hit about his body and Williams was hit to his right foot. As a result, Payne was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, while Williams was admitted.
