THE Region 10 arm of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) on Saturday held its regional conference under the theme UBANTU meaning” I am who I am because of who we are”, during which it elected members to key positions in the region.The party’s Chairman Basil Williams attended the conference. Also present were: Minister of Social Cohesion Amna Ally, Minister of Social Protection Volda Lawrence, Party General Secretary Mr. Oscar Clarke, His Worship the Mayor of Linden, Carwyn Holland and Regional Democratic Council Chairman, Mr. Renis Morian.
Sandra Adams was unopposed for the position of Chairperson for Region 10. Adams is also Deputy Director for Community Development Council. She was reelected to the position as she served in that capacity since the 1999 elections. Adams who is the sister of Minister within the Ministry of Communities Valarie Patterson also served in the capacity as Regional Party Coordinator.
Elected to the position of Vice-Chairman was Regional Democratic Councillor, Mr. Douglas Gittens. Mr. Walter Glasgow was elected as Secretary, Member of Parliament, Jermaine Figueira was elected as Central Executive Committee (CEC) representative. Other committee members are Melanie Samuels, Doleresse McDonald and Winston Caesar.
The newly elected members made several projections, but said building a modernised party office was a priority which they are aiming to be completed for the party’s 60th Anniversary in 2017.
Adams who gave an overview of the party said that the regional election was an important step for the party to take after 17 years as there are a lot of plans to foster assistance to the people. This will be done through the party and the ministries. “We will be doing a lot of outreaches going into the Berbice River in this very new week…I am happy and I am willing to teach the younger folk in the party what the party is all about,” she posited.
PNCR Chairman, Basil Williams said that the conference was peaceful, with healthy discussions emerging and the newly elected executives have a mandate to assist the people in giving them the good life that was promised.
