Police have recaptured one of two convicted prisoners, who escaped from the Lusignan Prison facility on September 20, 2016.
Acting on information, police apprehended 26-year-old Fauouse Shakir, of La Ressouvenir, East Coast Demerara. This newspaper understands that he was captured in a route 44 minibus on Monday in the vicinity of the Kitty Service Station.
A police report noted that ranks extracted the convict who denied he was the person but subsequently retracted his statement when Prison Officers positively identified him.

Shakir was serving a two-year sentence for break and entry and larceny. He is expected to be charged soon with escaping from lawful custody. Still on the run is 22-year-old Rajendra Deonarine, of Richmond Housing Scheme, Essequibo. Deonarine was serving a three-year jail sentence for possession of cocaine.
Reports revealed that the duo used the Lusignan Golf Course as their route of escape.
