A TAXI DRIVER attached to Green Ice Taxi Service was granted $20,000 bail when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday on a charge of fraudulent conversion.Chaitram Suknandan, 37, of Grove, Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara pleaded guilty to the charge which alleged that on October 10, 2016 at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, while being entrusted with money to pay a mortgage ($90,000 by Shawn Mahadeo), he converted same to his own use and benefits.

The defendant begged the magistrate to give him one week to return the money. He stated: ‘’I would like to pay him back, I don’t want any problem with the court.” The matter was adjourned for October 20 and transferred to the Providence Magistrate Court.
