Victims fight off bandits — one apprehended, another escapes

ONE of two bandits was apprehended after a botched robbery at a Chinese Restaurant Saturday night in Parfaite Harmonie, Canal Number One Polder, West Bank Demerara.Police press officer, Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan said about 23:30 hrs, the 48 and 46-year-old victims were at the Jods Chinese Restaurant when the unmasked suspects, one armed with a handgun pounced and relieved them of their valuables, including a wallet and an undisclosed amount of cash.

During the episode the robber with the gun discharged a round and a scuffle ensued with the victims.

In the tussle, the magazine of the firearm fell out and was retrieved by one of the victims.

At that stage, the suspect with the gun threw the weapon to the other suspect who caught same and escaped, but he was not so lucky since he was firmly held and handed over to the police who arrived promptly on the scene.

The wallet with the cash belonging to one of the victims was found in possession of the 23-year-old suspect who hails from Middle Street, La Penitence, Geogetown.

Police said diligent efforts are being made to have the other suspect arrested while commending the acts of courage and bravery displayed by two victims.

Police have launched as investigation into the matter.
