Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle, close friend of the deceased Mark Jacobs said the matter should be investigated by persons outside the Guyana Police Force.
According to Jacobs, he and the parents of Crum-Ewing are of the belief that some amount of corruption was involved in the investigation of the activist’s death.
They believed that the man was killed because of his staunch protests against then Attorney General Anil Nandlall of the former PPP Administration.
“We saw bribery… we saw many different forms of corruption in the various stages of the trial,” Jacobs claimed.
He is also of the belief that the prosecution team was very “incompetent.”
Jacobs said every month, a group of about 10-15 persons (including himself) gather at Middle and Carmichael Streets, Georgetown, in an effort to “get justice” for Crum-Ewing.
Also speaking to the Chronicle was Crum-Ewing’s stepfather Eustace Harcourt. He too is pleading with the authorities to launch a new investigation into Crum-Ewing’s murder.
“It would be difficult to get a proper investigation or a proper prosecution,” he said, contending that those associated with the murder of his son are still high- ranking officials within the Government and legal system.
The family and friends gathered to urge the President and the APNU+AFC Members of Parliament to launch a “proper investigation” into the killing of the activist, as he was “the primary reason for the APNU+AFC coalition being in Government.”
Even though there was an investigation, no one was convicted of Crum-Ewing’s murder.
