COLDA Towler, 41, was sentenced to three years imprisonment when she appeared before Magistrate Lerone Daly on an illegal possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking charge on Thursday.owler of Lot 1, Mandela Avenue, East La Penitence, Georgetown, had earlier changed her plea to guilty and was sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined $2.7M.
She, along with Ian Griffith of North East La Penitence, was charged with the possession of narcotic. The charged read that on August 26, 2016 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), they attempted to smuggle 1.004kg of cocaine out of Guyana, using Towler’s 15-year-old old Guyanese born son, who is a US resident.
It was alleged that the two placed the cocaine in the handles of the teen’s luggage. Towler in her first appearance told the court that she along with Griffith packed the suitcases which they borrowed from a friend and they were unaware that cocaine was concealed in the handles of the suitcases.
The teen was traveling alone and was about to board an Eastern Airlines flight to the US when he was intercepted.
