Students of the University Of Guyana (UG) on Monday morning protested the university administration over the 5 % increase in fees which the institution announced last week.

Students marched from the Railway Embankment and into the compound of the university. They then assembled in front of the Vice Chancellor’s office and marched around the campus twice, including the catwalk and through several faculties.

They then assembled on the tarmac and attracted numbers as the proceedings progressed. The annual tuition fee for the 2016/2017 Academic Year is therefore $168,000 instead of $160,000; and with an annual facility fee of $50,000, this now takes the total to $218,000.
