Dear Editor,
I WISH to express my concern about the neglect of desolate structures that plague what is supposed to be the Garden City.A close relative of mine, who resides in Bel Air Park, Georgetown, once a respectable and upstanding community, has been made to endure the adverse effects of a desolate structure just behind her house. This abandoned house is located at 140 Barima Avenue, Bel-Air Park.
Apart from the deplorable sight, the abandoned house for many years has provided a safe haven for vagrants, drug addicts, junkies and thieves. On numerous occasions neighbouring residents endured the horrors of burglary and the sight of unfamiliar faces scouting out their properties while lurking in this abandoned structure. Many reports were made to the Kitty police station, and the Georgetown City Council. Neighbouring residents are fatigued and utterly disgusted at what seems to be total disregard for their safety, as well as for the image of their closely knit community. Local Government elections have concluded, respected authorities duly elected and paid on time, now it’s time for these respected individuals to honour the obligations of their respected offices. I do hope this letter is published by your agency, since this particular public awareness will personally recompense me with some peace of mind.
Regards
Esan Ayeni Hamer
