FOLLOWING the Temple Street, Ogle, East Coast Demerara,armed robbery on Tuesday morning when two bandits posing as ‘customers’ relieved the family of more than $2M in cash, jewellery and electronics, no arrests have yet been made, police reported.The residence houses a feed shop,where customers are allowed to enter the yard and make their purchases.
It was about 09:00 hrs when two men, who arrived on a motorcycle, entered the yard and enquired about the price for a bag of rice bran after which they held up the victims and ushered them into the lower flat of the house and demanded money and jewellery.
At the time, two neighbours, a customer and members of the extended family were at home.
The bandits grabbed computers, iPhone, iPads, money and jewellery from the home before making good their escape. Sooklall said they also relieved him of the day’s sales of $15,000 he had in his pockets before locking them inside the house and escaping on the motorcycle.
The man stated that the robbers bundled the items into a bag while they pointed their gun at them when his daughter-in-law was hesitant to hand over valuables.
The Sooklalls, a family of seven,including four children, have been operating a feed shop at their residence for the past eight years and this is the first armed robbery incident.
