A 31-year-old businessman was granted $50,000 bail on a charge of fraudulent conversion when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Friday.Clayton Younge of 4th Street Alberttown, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge. It is alleged that between August 24, 2014 and March 12,2016, he was entrusted with a quantity of household and electrical items to the total value $523,500 by Jennifer Lowe. He was to keep and return the items but converted the items to his own use and benefit.
However, Younge’s lawyer Mortimer Coddett, in his application for reasonable bail, explained that his client was the reputed son-in-law of Lowe.
Coddett further pointed out that his client was living with the woman’s daughter at the lower flat of her home. Lowe migrated to the United States of America and her daughter followed and Younge was left in charge of the home at Meadow Brook Gardens.
According to the lawyer, there was “bad blood” between Younge and his mother-in-law. He claimed that his client purchased the items and had receipts to prove his claims.
Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers did not present any facts to the court and had no objections to bail being granted to the accused. The case was transferred to Court 12 for September 26.
