MOTORCYCLIST Deodat Singh, 32, of Cumberland Village, East Canje died on Monday of injuries he sustained after he rode into an unbranded horse on the Cumberland Public Road, East Canje last Thursday.Singh died at the Georgetown Public Hospital, just after dawn on Monday morning, days after being admitted in the Intensive Care Unit.
Reports indicate that the man was riding a borrowed motorcycle CD5674 along the Canefield Public Road when a brown unbranded horse ran into him, resulting in a collision.
Just seconds before the incident, Reliance Police Station Sergeant Hamilton was patrolling in motor vehicle PPP 4934 and was proceeding south along the eastern drive lane, heading towards his station, when the rider of motorcycle CD 5674 passed him in the vicinity of Welfare Street, Canefield, East Canje, Berbice.
The rider, he said, was travelling at a fast rate.
Hamilton said soon after he heard a loud sound and on checking he saw the
motorcyclist and the horse flat on the road.
The motorcyclist was picked up by Sergeant Hamilton and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was examined and admitted.
He was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
He suspected that Singh fractured his skull in the accident. A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted on him shortly.
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that the motorcycle in the accident belonged to Beajie Singh of Highbury, East Bank Berbice.
