Miner killed in Pomeroon boat collision

A BOAT collision in the Lower Pomeroon River, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), Wednesday night has left one man dead and two others escaping without any injuries, Commander of ‘G Division Superintendent Kevin Adonis has confirmed. Dead is Ryan DeFreitas, 28, of Lower Pomeroon. His brother Felix DeFreitas, 14 of Lower Pomeroon was not injured and another person called “Ray” was also not injured.
Reports reveal that DeFreitas was a passenger in one of the boats that was involved in the collision and he was tossed overboard as a result of the accident. His body was later fished out of the river and taken to the Suddie Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem . The police have launched an investigation.
According to a relative, the dead man is the father of a four-year-old girl and previously worked as a gold miner. He recently stopped because of an accident in the interior that damaged his legs.
“He didn’t go in the backdam for a long time since an accident damaged both legs, so he was at home,” the relative told this publication “When he reach into the accident he was going to pick up some workmen for someone.”
