SHELLY Ann Fraser-Pryce is to see a doctor in Miami in about two weeks at which time a decision could be made as to whether or not she undergoes surgery on a troublesome big toe.The 2016 Olympic 100-metre bronze medallist had been bothered by the injured toe for almost a year.
It hampered her preparation for the Olympic Games where she was attempting to become the first woman to win three consecutive Olympic 100-metre titles.
She aggravated the injury while winning her 100m semi-final heat but was able to mine a bronze medal in the final won by her compatriot Elaine Thompson.
According to the athlete’s publicist, Sherie Ranston, Fraser-Pryce visited her doctor in Miami on her way home from Brazil. He had her wear a protective boot which she will keep on for the next two weeks when he is to examine the toe again.
The specific nature of the injury remains a mystery, SportsMax.tv understands.
Initial reports said she was suffering from a fracture but later reports suggested it was not.
Ranston said the athlete is reluctant to speak on the nature of the injury until there is certainty as to what it actually is.
In addition to her two Olympic 100-metre titles, Fraser-Pryce has also won four individual World Championship gold medals including three 100-metre titles in 2009, 2013, and 2015. (Sportsmax.com)
