THE man who was shot dead by police Friday last after behaving disorderly outside the Camp Street prison has been identified as 25-year-old Shane Scippio of West Coast Demerara.According to a family friend who requested anonymity, Scippio had been a psychiatric patient for several years and bore a tattoo marking on his upper back that stated “C.P.O”.
Police had reported that the man went to the Camp Street Prison, on John and Durban Streets, and behaved in a disorderly manner.
He reportedly threw down some steel barriers, in the presence of the ranks, guarding the perimeter of the prison. He was taken into custody by ranks of a police patrol but subsequently returned and continued the said behaviour and action in front of the prison.
According to the Police, the constable, rank armed with a service weapon and under the supervision of a subordinate officer, approached the suspect. The suspect then reportedly attacked the rank, to which he (rank) discharged a round, hitting the suspect to the abdomen.
Investigators noted that the rank’s weapon has been lodged as the probe continues.
