Dear Editor,
IT WAS most fitting for Brazil to stage its opening and closing Olympic ceremonies at Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. That Stadium is famous for staging the largest crowd attendance of 199,854 people at the Brazil vs Uruguay World Cup soccer match on 16 July 1950, and has since been renovated to the extent that its capacity number is reduced. At that soccer match, Brazil scored first but lost the final to Uruguay 2 to 1.
The great Pele was instrumental in Brazil’s winning the World Cup for the first time in 1958 in Sweden.
I just thought it good to share information on Maracana Stadium with your readers.
Regards,
