RELATIVES found 30-year-old Ravidat Jagnit slumped over his toilet at his Betsy Ground, East Canje home on August 14.A post-mortem done by Government Pathologist Dr. Vivikanand Brijmohan at the New Amsterdam Hospital Mortuary has determined that Jagnit died from an enlarged heart. It was reported that the father of one had watched television on Saturday with an offspring and a sibling before retiring to bed. The next morning he was reportedly discovered motionless, in a crouched position in his toilet.

Jagnit was, in 2009, convicted by Justice Diana Ishanally at the Berbice Assizes and sentenced to twelve years’ imprisonment for raping a 55-year-old woman. However, his lawyer Murselene Bacchus successfully petitioned the Guyana Court of Appeal and the conviction and sentence were quashed. The tribunal had ordered a retrial, which was still pending at the time of Jagnit’s death.
