17-YEAR-OLD Joshua Indarjit of Skeldon Line Path Secondary School earned 17 Grade Ones, effectively giving him a spot among the country’s top performers and the top student in Region 6.He was happy at the news of his performance, noting that he wanted to challenge himself by pursuing the maximum amount of subjects offered by the school. “I am a science student but I also believe in diversifying, so if one area does not work out there’s always another area to follow”, he said.

Joshua is the cousin of Guyana’s leading neurosurgeon, Dr Amarnauth Dukhi.
He never had a schedule to study and this unnerved his mother, Ann, who spoke with the Chronicle. “There wasn’t any schedule to study and I was always on Joshua’s case, ‘Son, make a timetable and follow it.’ But his response is always, “Mom, it’s ok; I got this.’ He isn’t the type to be studying all the time. He does it when he gets the urge and inspiration,” she said.

Joshua hopes to earn a scholarship to pursue his dream of becoming a physicist or a petroleum engineer.

His advice to students who will be sitting the examination in 2017 is to work smart, not hard.

“Focus on your weak areas and set a goal and work towards it.”
