THE Government of Guyana, in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), is inviting entrepreneurs from the Guyanese diaspora to be part of its “Go See Visits 2016” initiative.This initiative will provide entrepreneurs of Guyanese origin residing abroad opportunity to visit Guyana, in November 2016, to explore prospects for establishing small- and medium-sized businesses in their home country. The visits will also help to establish networks and build mutual confidence, thus opening opportunities for new and innovative entrepreneurial initiatives, including those geared to increase employment in low-income communities in Guyana.
Candidates will be selected based on:
*Business experience and achievement;
* The potential contribution to increase employment and income generation within low income communities; and
* The ability to offset additional visit costs not covered by IOM.
Candidates are required to submit the following documents by September 30th, 2016:
* A motivation letter detaining their experiences, key business achievements and key interest areas for the visit;
* Must include their ability to off-set costs associated with the trip;
* Copy of their business registration.
Business ideas must be creative and aim to impact economic and social development through increasing employment for nationals in Guyana.
Each interested candidate must be a diaspora entrepreneur who is a citizen or legal resident residing outside of Guyana. Additionally, candidates must have an innovative idea on how to expand a business or introduce new goals or services to local communities.
Candidates are also expected to have the drive, conviction, and overall professional acumen to establish a potential business that can increase employment opportunities in Guyana.
A requirement which will be taken into consideration will be the candidate’s having start-up capital or the proven ability to interact with potential investors and business advisors to start a business.
At the end of the visit, candidates will be invited to participate in focused group discussions and one-on-one interviews, to share on the overall usefulness of the visit and to establish individual plans for follow-up support for the setting up of businesses.
The IOM will provide round-trip air tickets to the maximum of US$1,100 to selected candidates; a one-time stipend of US$370 will be provided to support related costs, technical assistance for travel, introductory meetings, and workshops with stakeholders in the country.
The selected candidates will be required to cover any other related costs not supported by IOM. The length of visits will vary, depending on the nature of engagement with investors or business partners.
Go See Visits 2016 are supported through the IOM project “Effective and Sustainable Diaspora Engagement for Development in the Caribbean”, and are funded by the IOM Development Fund.
