The persons who benefited, Davis said, were the young, the elderly and the disabled; and even though the exercise had targeted between 600 and 800 persons, everyone who had attended the distribution process received something from Food for the Poor.

Sixty-nine-year-old Yvonne Blackman was one of the beneficiaries; she said it was not the first time she had received help from that charitable organisation. Blackman is diabetic and is bed-ridden most of the time, being unable to walk. She said Food For The Poor has always been there for her.

Another beneficiary, Audrey McCardy, also thanked the charitable organisation for reaching out to the poor.

Food For The Poor is a non-profit organisation that has offices in several Caribbean and Latin American countries. In Guyana, the organisation assists the needy through feeding programmes, establishing children’s homes, and outreach and distribution programmes.
