GCF names five-man team for 2016 Junior Caribbean Championships

THE Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) recently announced a five-man team of cyclists to represent the Golden Arrowhead at the Junior Championships to be staged in St Lucia on July 30 and 31.According to a release, the five-member team is spearheaded by national junior time trial and road race champion Christopher Cornelius of Team Evolution and includes the experienced quartet of Team United’s Andrew Hicks and Raphael Leung along with Jornel Yearwood of Linden Bauxite Flyers and the lone juvenile Zaman Khan of Flying Ace Cycle Club.
Apart from the road race, the Guyanese will also contest the time trials.
The GCF named two persons to accompany the team in the form of Randolph Roberts as coach and Marc Sonoram as manager.
The local pedal-pushers who are `firing on all cylinders’ will be opposing their counterparts from Barbados, United States Virgin Islands, Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, Bermuda, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Jamaica, Martinique and Puerto Rico.
The 10K time trial for Boys 15-16 years old juveniles, and the 20K for Juniors will all be held on July 30 in the afternoon on the Millennium Highway, while the road race will be contested the following day.
The juveniles will cover a distance of 62.2K while the juniors will race for 100K.
