TEAM Evolution’s Raul Leal came out on top of the field in the feature 35-lap race of the Hassan Mohamed organized 6th Annual Banks DIH sponsored Malta Supreme cycle 11-race programme that was held yesterday around the inner circuit of the National Park.Riding in rainy conditions, Leal returned one hour 20 minutes 17.12 seconds in winning the race ahead of Hamza Eastman, Alonzo Ambrose, Christopher Griffith, Marlon `Fishy’ Williams and Kemuel Moses respectively.
Hinds won the event last year in a time of one hour, 19 minutes 49.90 seconds, almost one minute faster than Leal’s time yesterday.
Eastman won six of the eight prime prizes that were up for grabs while Leal and Ambrose took one each.
From the very first lap, Eastman along with Alonzo Ambrose and Leal broke from the starting pack and never looked back as they shared the lead throughout the entire 35-lap race and was able to lap the field after 18 laps.
In other results from yesterday’s programme, John Niles won the BMX boys 6-9 years old two-lap race ahead of Jesicka Mohabir and Antone Van Denburg respectively.
Joshua Hassim who was the lone rider in the BMX boys’ 9-12 years old three-lap race was obviously the winner.
Adelie Hodge won the BMX boys 12-14 three-lap race ahead of Tharan Garbarran.
Jude Bentley won the five-lap race for veterans ahead of Warren McKay and Eon `Dumb Boy’ Jackson respectively, while Raymond Newton was the winner of the five-lap race for veterans over 50 years of age.
