Over $20M on offer for Guyana Cup horserace meet

… set for August 14 at Port Mourant

IN observance of Guyana’s 50th Independence Anniversary, the Jumbo Jet Establishment, in collaboration with the Port Mo0urant Turf Club, Berbice, will have on offer over $20M in prize money for its 10th Annual Guyana Cup Horserace meet scheduled for August 14.The eight-race card will see the winner of the feature event which is open to horses classified A and Lower battle over 1600 metres and the winner pocket $4M.
The co-feature event is open to three-year-old Guyana and West Indies-bred horses and they will contest a 1600m race as well, with the winner receiving $2M.
A two-year-olds race is also on the cards and this is open to West Indies-bred animals that will battle in a 1000m event with the winner collecting $1M.
There will also be a $3M race for E Class and Lower horses with the winner drawing down $1M.
A 1300m race will be staged for horses classified G and Lower and the winner for this race will earn $700 000.
Horses classified H and Lower will do battle over 1400m with the winner taking home $500 000.
A 1100m race is also on the day’s programme and is open to horses classified J & K and Lower with the winner earning $350 000.
Horses classified `L’ will contest a 1000M race and the winner will receive $250 000.
Trophies and other incentives will be at stake for the top jockey and runner-up; the top stable and the champion trainer.
Apart from the cash prizes for the winners of each event, trophies and cash prizes are also on offer for the other top finishers of each event.
The day’s activity will be conducted under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority.
