Webb sentencing delayed until November

THE sentencing of disgraced former CONCACAF president Jeffrey Webb has been delayed until November 18, following a request from his attorney.Webb, also a former FIFA vice-president, was expected to be sentenced yesterday after pleading guilty to charges of racketeering wire fraud and money-laundering last year. As part of a plea deal Webb, who was released on a US$10 million bond, agreed to return more than US$6.7M to aggrieved parties.
In a letter on Thursday, however, Webb’s attorney Edward O’Callaghan requested that his client’s sentencing hearing be adjourned to November.
Court documents show that the judge Raymond Dearie granted the request. The former Cayman Islands Football Association president also received leniency from the court last month after conditions of his house arrest were relaxed.
Webb was allowed to travel 50 miles (80 kilometres) from his home in Loganville, Georgia, instead of the previously stipulated 20 miles, to run errands and help care for his young son.
The former football official was one of 40 indicted by the United States justice system for receiving millions of dollars in bribes. Another former CONCACAF president Jack Warner is also facing charges. (Sportsmax.com)
