THE usual Thursday night lime at the Plaisance Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara, turned deadly when two men who had an old grievance started to argue during which one was fatally stabbed.The dead man has been identified as 28-year-old Orette West of Guyhoc Park, Georgetown. The police have reported that West, a bodywork technician, was stabbed to death around 00:30hrs on June 3, 2016, on the Railway Embankment in the vicinity of Plaisance.
Sleuths said West was in the company of his girlfriend, when an argument ensued between him and an unidentified assailant over a fight they had had some time ago. As a result, the assailant pulled out a knife and fatally stabbed West in the region of the left side of his chest and escaped.
Sister of the deceased, Ginell West, told the Guyana Chronicle that she is not sure what transpired and they are relying on the police for information. She stated that West resides in a house aback their mother’s property at Guyhoc Park and she had not see him in a while.
West leaves to mourn seven siblings and was described as a very easy-going individual, who had a lot of friends and would often socialise. Meanwhile, Commander of ‘C’ Division, Marlon Chapman, told the Guyana Chronicle that the young woman who was with West at the time of the incident gave a statement and is cooperating with the police.
According to the commander, the hunt is on for the suspect and it is only a matter of time before he is apprehended.
