THE inaugural edition of the Aliann Pompey Invitational Track and Field meet will be launched today at Olympic House, High Street at 14:00hrs.According to a release, the Aliann Pompey Invitational will take place on June 18 at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora and is expected to be one of the largest athletics event ever held in Guyana.
The meet has attracted Guyana’s premier local and overseas talent, as well as prominent athletes from more than 15 countries.
Four-time Olympian and national award winner Aliann Pompey will be present to answer questions relating to the meet.
She will be joined by representatives of sponsors and a few athletes competing in the event.
With the 2016 Rio Olympic Games less than 50 days away, many of the competing athletes will be using the competition to “find their form and this gives local track fans and athletes alike the opportunity to be part of a high-level meet right here in Guyana.
