GAPLF to host Claude Charles Memorial on June 5

THE Guyana Amateur Power Lifting Federation (GAPLF) will be hosting its annual Claude Charles Memorial Intermediate and Masters Power-Lifting competition on June 5 at the Critchlow Labour College.Jamie McDonald of Fitness Express, a long-time supporter of power-lifting in Guyana and many other disciplines, has once again come in as the main sponsor for this event.
The competition is expected to usher in the return of one of Guyana’s most seasoned and decorated power-lifters, Big John Edwards, after 3 years out of training. He will appear in Masters 1 category.
Patrons can also look forward to the likes of Winston ‘Little Master’ Stoby who will be competing in the Masters 2 category.
Frank Tucker, president of the Guyana Weightlifting Association will also be competing in the Masters 3 category along with Farouk Abdool out of Hardcore Gym in Berbice.
Several youngsters are expected to vie for supremacy in the Intermediate category while Best Lifter for Novices Unequipped 2016, Carlos Peterson, has already set the tone with his stellar performance in Berbice and aims to better his previous total.
Arif Immamdeen of Elite Systems will be competing but will face fierce opposition from sub-junior powerhouse, Romario Gonsalves of Life Gym.
Meanwhile, seasoned bodybuilder and Ms Physique Nadina Taharally will be stepping on the platform to compete in the Masters 1 and Intermediate while much is expected of the 2 unequipped females Lisa Oudit and Melissa Tucker whose Novices performances were quite impressive.
Weigh-In and Equipment check starts at 07:00hrs and ends a 09:00hrs.
Athletes are advised that anyone who does not make this time bracket will not be allowed to compete and they are also urged to be in accordance with the rules and regulations of the GAPLF.
Athletes have already been invited to meet the GAPLF and were briefed on the requirements and regulations of this competition. Lifting will commence at 10:30hrs. Admission is $500.
There will also be guest-lifting by members of the team selected to represent Guyana at this year’s Caribbean Powerlifting Championships in St Croix, USVI. They are Andrea Smith, Erwyn Smith, Rawndell Clementson, Karel Mars and Paul Adams.
