RISING Pune Supergiants earned only their fourth win of the season to dent Delhi Daredevils’ play-off hopes.Delhi Daredevils’ hopes of qualifying for the Indian Premier League play-offs suffered a blow with a 19-run defeat to Rising Pune Supergiants by the Duckworth-Lewis Method yesterday.
Having put the Daredevils in to bat, the Supergiants, who have already been eliminated from contention, restricted Delhi to 121-6, Adam Zampa taking 3-21 to move his tally for the season to 11 wickets in 13 overs.
Karun Nair was the only player in Delhi’s top order to make any kind of significant impact as he scored 41, while Chris Morris (38 not out) helped the Daredevils finish the innings strongly.
The Supergiants’ chase was interrupted by rain in the ninth over with Ajinkya Rahane leading the charge on 26.
Play eventually resumed but Pune were only able to finish 11 overs of their pursuit as the rain returned again to force the match to be called off.
However, in that time Rahane added a further 16 runs to his total, taking the Supergiants to 76-1, well beyond the Duckworth-Lewis par score of 57.
Victory for Pune is just the fourth of what has been a disappointing campaign for the IPL new boys but is enough to move them off the bottom and above Kings XI Punjab.
The Daredevils remain two points behind Gujarat Lions – who occupy the fourth and final play-off place – with two games still to play.
