AS GUYANA makes preparations to welcome visitors and persons from the Diaspora for the country’s Independence celebration, the Guyana Tourism Authority has collaborated with Guyoil in holding a two-day training for taxi, minibus drivers and dispatchers at Regency Suites Hotel, Hadfield Street, Georgetown.The training session, which began on Wednesday was aimed at improving the customer service practices for drivers and dispatchers as Guyana’s Independence Day draws near. At the end of the

training the participants were expected to improve the quality of service they provided to their customers as they were reminded of the critical role they can play in showcasing Guyana.
The participants listened to lectures by Mr. Indranauth Haralsingh , Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority, who dealt with customer service; Health and Safety Officer of Guyoil, Sauid Husain, who spoke on Health and Safety at the gas stations; and Assistant Traffic Chief, Boodnarine Persaud, who addressed defensive driving.
Mr. Haralsingh stated that the training was organized to help the participants deliver exceptional service during the country’s Independence celebrations.
Marketing Manager of Guyoil, Eric Whaul, in his brief address to the participants, stated that he felt privileged in representing the Guyana Oil Company in such an important event. He also encouraged them to use what they had learnt not just for the upcoming celebrations but also for after the celebrations, as the training would not only be beneficial for them for the celebration but they could apply it to their every day life and it would benefit them in the long term.

The company’s Sales Manager, Jacqueline James stated that safety and customer service were very important to the company.
Participating in such an event was one way the company gave back to the community and the persons who had supported them through the years.
Guyoil has also launched a promotion, “Fuel up for Gold.” Persons can enter the competition by purchasing $3000 worth of fuel to have a chance to be one of 50 persons to win one of the 50 Golden Jubilee coins. The computation runs until June 16.
