Several changes made to Independence horse race meet

AIMED at facilitating every horse race owner countrywide, organisers of the 50th Independence Anniversary horserace meet have made several changes ahead of the one-day event.Dubbed the biggest horse race meet for the calendar year, the event is billed for May 22 at the Port Mourant Turf Club, Corentyne.
Information reaching Chronicle Sport revealed that the organisers have added an event for Horses classified G and Lower and West Indies-bred. The race will be run over 1200 metres, and see the winning stable take home $350 000.
It was also revealed that the H Class race is now for H2 horses over 1000 metres for an increased package of $300 000.
And the other change to the programme will see the Three-year-old event is now for Three-year-old Guyana-bred horses and West Indies-bred non-winners. An increased package of $250 000 will be up for grabs over 1000 metres.
Meanwhile, the organisers indicated that the feature event remains for horses classified A’ and Lower with the first prize set at $1.5M. The event will go over a grueling 1900 metres.
The other events listed are the D3 and Lower, E and F class and Lower, I3 and Lower, J3 and K and Lower and K and L and Lower.
The event will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority
