FIFTH place Guyana Defence Force (GDF) will face off with Monedderlust while bottom-of-the-table Georgetown Football Club (GFC) take on Fruta Conquerors when play in the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) STAG Beer Elite League continues tonight at the Leonora Sports Facility, West Demerara.In the opening game from 18:00hrs, GDF, after four victories, five losses and two draws, have scored 17 goals and conceded 22 for a minus five-goal difference.
Monedderlust, on the other hand, have completed 12 matches. They won one, lost eight and drew three. They scored 10 goals to date and conceded 28 for a minus 18 goal difference and occupy the penultimate spot in the eight-team league.
Fruta, after completing 11 matches are second in the point standings with 28 points from nine victories, one loss and one drawn game. To date they have scored 29 goals and conceded 13 for a plus 16 goal difference. Fruta were down to play top-of-the-table Slingerz last evening at the same venue to complete their 12 matches.
GFC are still struggling after completing 12 matches. They lost 10 and drew two and have so far scored eight goals and conceded 32 for a goal difference of minus 24 and two points.
According to a GFF release, the above-mentioned matches were originally scheduled for Guyana Defence Force (GDF) ground at Camp Ayanganna, Georgetown Football Club ground and Tucville grounds, but they all had to be rescheduled to the National Track and Field Facility, Leonora, West Coast Demerara.
The overall winner of the tournament will receive $2M, while the second- and third- place teams will collect $1M and $500 000 respectively.
