A FORTY-YEAR-OLD driver was granted $500,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Friday for causing the death of a policeman. Ron Cole of 215 Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden, denied that on April 11 at Eccles, East Bank Demerara, he drove motor pick-up GRR 9355 in a dangerous manner, resulting in the death of Nacosie

Kelvin LaFleur.
LaFleur, who was stationed at the Providence Police Station, was struck down while directing traffic at Eccles. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he succumbed two days after.
LaFleur was reportedly positioned near the traffic lights at Eccles and had stopped traffic to allow children to cross the road when he was struck from behind by the pick-up.
Cole made his first court appearance on April 18 and was remanded, since he was not allowed to plead to the charge.
Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones did not object to bail at Cole’s second court appearance, but asked that conditions be applied. Bail was granted and he was ordered to report weekly to the McKenzie Police Station.
The matter has been adjourned to May 18.
