FINANCE Minister Winston Jordan recently participated in the World Bank’s Regional Conference, “Cuentas Claras: Governance for Growth with Equity in Latin Americana and the Caribbean”, held in Montevideo, Uruguay. This forum was organised “to promote the dialogue about strategic policies to address the challenges of enhancing transparency and accountability in the public sector, with the objective of raising long term growth and equity”.

During the course of discussions, panellists and participants obtained first-hand knowledge of governance reforms in the region and the wider world, and offered their own experiences to advance growth in the region.

Minister Jordan was invited to be part of a panel of finance ministers who addressed the impact of specific governance challenges on the ability of nations to implement policy reform in the context of a period of low growth which threatens the gains experienced during the boom years.

A number of high-level government officials and representatives of multilateral financial institutions, researchers and other leaders of Latin America and the Caribbean also attended the forum.

Organised by the World Bank and the Government of Uruguay, this two-day conference began on April 28.
