EAST La Penitence shopkeeper David Sukhnandan is now nursing a gunshot wound to the leg after bandits stormed his shop yesterday morning.Explaining what transpired to the Guyana Chronicle, a close relative of his disclosed that at around 08:00hrs, two bandits posing as customers forced the shopkeeper to open his door to sell them a bottle of gas.

“He normally opens the bottom part of the shop door when he sells gas. So, this time, he also thought it was regular customers. But as soon as he opened the door, the two men ran in on him,” the man’s relative said.

Upon invading the shop, the bandits got into a scuffle with the businessman, and one of them fired a shot, which hit him in the leg, leaving him motionless.

The father of two is currently in a stable condition at a city hospital.

Sukhnandan’s relative recounted that the intruders ransacked the shop and carted off an unknown sum of cash and other valuables before escaping.

Police are continuing investigations.

Meanwhile, it was pointed out to this publication that the shop was robbed a few years ago. However, their most recent encounter with bandits was last December when men attempted to break into their East La Penitence home.
