CHIEF Magistrate Ann McLennan on Tuesday placed 18-year-old gold miner Kemraj Persaud on $50,000 bail after he appeared before her unrepresented by legal counsel to answer a simple larceny accusation which he denied committing.

The allegation is that on March 29 at Port Kaituma, he stole $200,000 cash from Basdeo Persaud.

The accused also explained that he resides at Grass Field, Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.

Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones did not object to bail, but disclosed that the allegedly stolen money was never recovered.

Persaud’s matter has been transferred before the Matthews Ridge Magistrate for May 3.
