Pele, Alpha secure wins but Slingerz still head points table

PELE and Alpha United football clubs secured wins on Sunday evening when the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) STAG Elite Finale continued at the Georgetown Football Club ground.
However, the two club’s victories have not made a difference to the Slingerz Club who have so far played unbeaten after nine matches.In the opening encounter on Sunday evening, Pele notched up a 4-1 win against Berbice club Monedderlust through a double off the boot of Guyana Golden Jaguars’ Gregory Richardson in the 40th and 64th minutes and one each from Konata Manning, another Guyana Golden Jaguar, and Colric Beckles in the 53rd and 38th minutes respectively.

Monedderlust’s lone goal came by way of an own goal through a defensive blunder by Pele’s defence.
In the feature match, Alpha `The Hammer’ United thrashed Georgetown Football Club (GFC) 5-1 as Delon Lanferman netted a treble in the 2nd, 48th and 90th plus 3) minutes and a double from Anthony `Awo’ Abrams in the 6th and 20th minutes.
During the game, Chimda Ndagwakwa, Alwayne Francis and Cortez Kellman, all of GFC, were issued yellow cards in the 29th, 31st and 84th minutes respectively, while Alpha United’s Daniel Wilson and Philbert Moffatt received similar cards in the 25th and 88th minutes respectively.
The win for Pele earned them three valuable points to take them to fifth in the points standings with 10 points from nine matches. They won three of their matches and drew one while losing five and with nine goals for and 13 against, they have a goal difference of minus four.
Monedderlust, on the other hand, remain on six points from nine matches. They won one, lost five and drew three. They have so far scored six goals but conceded 20 and have a minus 14 goal difference.
Alpha United have moved to third in the point standings with 17 points after nine matches. They won five lost two and drew two and have so far scored 23 goals and conceded eight for a plus 15 goal difference.
GFC for their part remain on one point after completing nine games. They lost eight and drew one and have so far scored six goals but conceded 27 for a minus 21 goal difference.
Slingerz lead the points table with 27 points from nine victories. They have so far scored 24 goals and conceded four.
The tournament will continue tomorrow at the same venue with another double-header in which Pele will tackle Buxton United in the feature game from 20:30hrs and Alpha United face Monedderlust in the opening game from 18:30hrs.
