A TWENTY-THREE-year-old soldier died just before sunrise Saturday after being hit by a speeding car on Sheriff Street, Georgetown.Lashana Moore, of New Providence, East Bank Demerara, was reportedly crossing the street when the car struck her, leaving her broken body on the roadway.
At about 05:30 hrs, Moore had just come out of a taxi and was crossing the street when a speeding car slammed into her and drove away, leaving her on the roadway. The young woman was pronounced dead on the spot.
The car was reportedly found abandoned in Campbell Street,Albouystown, Georgetown. The police have since arrested a Tucville, Georgetown resident as the suspected hit- and- run driver.
Moore had been a member of the Band Corps of the GDF for the past four years,as she worked to sustain her seven-month-old daughter.
Moore’s mother, Denise, explained that her daughter would often stay in at army headquarters, Camp Ayanganna and return home on the weekends.
According to the mother, she received the devastating news around 06:00hrs in the morning and sped down to the Sheriff Street accident scene, but they had already moved her daughter’s body.
The woman stated that Lashana was her eldest child and described her as a loving and hard- working mother.
